I got caught shoplifting at Kohl's in MA yesterday and I was wondering what will happen to me now. I know, it was stupid, but I can't change what I did. I'm 18 so I could be prosecuted. I was with two other friends, 18 and 19. We were very cooperative so the security officer said that we would not be charged. He had to call the police to verify our identification but we did not recieve a citation from them. They said that since we were cooperative that we were going to be let go. We were told that we will recieve a civil service charge of $250 dollars. What I want to know is if this will go on my record? Also, the security officer mentioned that we would not be able to work in retail. Does this mean for the rest of our lives? If we are not charged will this affect our future employment? I'm currently a premed student in college. Will this ruin my chances of getting into med school? I know that I shouldn't have done it in the first place, I realize that it is stupid and unnecessary, but will this one small thing ruin my career? Thanks to anyone who can help.
