I was surprised to find that my lease auto-renewed for a full year. Wondered if either of the following grounds could help:
1. Landlord's representative did not mention auto-renewal when asked about it prior to signing. Is his oral statement binding in anyway? Problem is there's not a whole lot of proof here.
2. I found this cleveland ordinance that says it any auto-renewal clause needs to be clearly identified in bold. This did not happen in my case. Hoping to find something similiar for Columbus or OH in general:
Summary of the Changes in the Law Resulting from The City of Cleveland Landlords and Tenants Law (Ordinance No. 1844A-99)
By Peter M. Iskin, Legal Aid Society of Cleveland
2. Automatic Renewal Provisions (Section 375.02(b)).
The Ordinance requires any automatic renewal provision in a lease to be set forth in clear
language, in bold type, and in conspicuous type (i.e., twice the size of other print), if the lease is for an initial term of six months or longer.
