I dropped off my car at the local mechanic in California, and the lot was full. I parked next to a fire hydrant in the parking lot. Across the lot is a do-yourself carwash with a big open space for cars to move around. Well this kid decided to back his big RV in the mechanics lot to turn around. He had 2 guys directing him while he backed up because he saw my car. The 2 jumped into the RV after backing out, but the knuckle head did not realized his back end swings around 8’ when he turns. He hit my car and proceeded to take off. My mechanic had to chase him down. He said he did not realize that he knocked out half of my car.
When I got there he was very sorry for wrecking my ride. He had the RV for 3 days and he was lucky he did not knock the fire hydrant off. Anyway he changed his tune when I called later to work the details out. He thinks I should share the cost since I parked next to a hydrant. I don’t think it gives him a right to hit my car, and neither does the repair shops I visited. What is the Law?
Thanks
