the charges that the police wrote on your ticket given to you can be changed when the D.A files your case with the court. The D.A may look at your criminal history, the nature of the crime, and files the charges that are more approriate. Just like my case, the police charged me with a grand theft felony for taking a cell phone (which is worth $400), but the city prosecutor files it as a petty theft misdemeanor, so don't get stressed over what the police give you. They can write whatever they want. The letter from the D.A informing your charge is the one you should be worry about!
