Is getting on the diverging program a form of plea bargain? Is it better to get on a diverging program or go on probation? I wouldn't want a conviction on my record so which is better?

Depending upon how the diversion program works, it may be very much like being on probation, except you don't end up with a criminal record. Some jurisdictions take a guilty plea before allowing an offender to participate in a diversion program, while others permit diversion prior to the entry of a plea.
If I go on supervision would that go one my record? If I get on the diverging program then when I apply for jobs do I have to write yes-diversion dismissed or can I just check no for convictions?
