Default What Percentage Of Inmates Are Innocent?

My buddy and I were discussing prison reform today. He says 30% of prison inmates are totally innocent. To me this sounds a little high... I was thinking it was closer to 15%. However, there are also a large number of inmates who are overly charged, but that doesn't make them totally innocent. Perhaps somebody here has the right statistics?

just ask them, they will tell you. They are all innocent.

Realistically, how can you have a statistic on something that is not supposed to be at all? If they are truly innocent, then they should not be behind the big doors. Who is supposedly gathering these stats and how are they confirmed as to having any accuracy? the state surely isn;t going to say this. Any source would only be guessing, at best.

I respectfully disagree. Most inmates took plea bargains, which is an admission of guilt. I understand some innocent people have taken plea's in the past but most take a plea because they are guilty.

    Actually, no. Whats it about.

JK, I know you tend to view inmates with suspicion, but even you have to admit at least some are innocent.

I don't know but how ever many is too many. I would guess 5% - no more than 10%.

5% is a little to low. 10-15% sounds about right...

    Possibly - I won't argue with that.
