Okay, I have a question about taxes and getting my return directly deposited into my bank account. Last year when I filed I chose to have my return mailed to me. I'm single with no kids so I never get a whole lot back. Well I received a letter in the mail stating that they kept my return because of an amount owed to Social Security (Survivors Benefits from my father passing). That story is that they over paid me $11,777.00 and basically they want it back. I've tried to file for waivers so that I do not have to pay it but they denied it stating that my mother filed 3 or 4 waivers already when I was a minor and they were approved.
So to get to the point I was wondering if I could possibly trick the system and have my refund directly deposited into my account and maybe they wouldn't catch it? Or could they possibly put a freeze on my account and take my money on top of it? I could use some advice before I make a dreadful mistake. I already doubt I am getting the whole "free money" that is supposedly being mailed out to help our economy, they will probably garnish that too.
Any advice would be most helpful. Thanks!
