I made the decision to move in an apartment on campus of where i was going to school at the time with a long-time childhood friend. We both are on the lease and I have recently moved out due to the fact that Iam no longer taking classes and have found a job not in that area however, Iam still paying rent. I left her a note letting her know that I would be out by January 1, 2008 and kept my word. Unfortunately, didnt make a copy. I have sense talked with a couple people who have informed me that she could have someone living there so I let her know that if she didn't find herself a roommate, that I would. I since have posted a listing and have had many interested people, in my lease Iam allowed to sublet my apartment for the remaining months. I went to show the apartment the other day to an potential tenant and my old roommate had locked the front door. I have given her notice each time I have wanted to show the place for obvious legal reasons. I do not and was never given a key to the front main door. I called my landlord the next day and he said that I have no right to be there and that I dont live there. I still pay rent and have keys.. there has been nothing done with the lease or anything remotely like that. Apparently my old roommate has someone wanting to move in May 1st and I have someone willing to move in March 1st. Why would I have to pay until May if I have someone willing and ready to move in now? The landlord has been no help and takes her side on the situation, wouldnt he just be worried about getting his rent?
So Im stuck with keys to an apartment that Im still paying for and am still on the lease but doesnt have the right to enter or show it? Does this make sense to anyone.
PLEASE HELP!
