I'm 18 now and a college student.
I've always been living in California
I shoplifted food worth <$3.00 at Longs and got caught by what I think was a LPO. It was and has been my only illegal act.
I was 14 at the time and he pulled me into some backroom.
He had me sign a few papers and then had me write down an apology/confession. He took a picture of items; I don't remember him taking a picture of me nor taking my fingerprints.
The LPO threatened to call the police, but ultimately decided not to.
The only things i recall clearly are being yelled at by my father and the LPO, and the LPO banning me from the store for two years.
I don't remember if he had my father sign any papers, but he did tell him that some monetary fine would come in the mail.
I think my father payed it, as nothing else ever happened after that.
It's been four years and I still haven't forgiven myself, but i've taken it as motivation to give back to the community.
But that's beside the point.
I was wondering if I would possibly have a criminal record/history.
The police weren't called but I can't help but be paranoid. COuld he have filed anything after I left? It's been four years and no court orders or warrants have been brought to my attention.
I've spent the past few days trying to figure out what to do.
The reason the whole ordeal came back to me was because I've decided to apply as a teaching-aide in chemistry next year. I'm sure they're going to do a background check.
I'm also planning on applying to med-school. Would anything appear when they run a criminal history/background check?
Lastly, would it be possible for me to obtain my personal criminal history to check for myself? I don't know if i have a criminal record.
Would it be on a juvenile record because of my age?
Thanks for your time.
