    Default Shoplifted Four Years Ago

    I'm 18 now and a college student.
I've always been living in California

I shoplifted food worth <$3.00 at Longs and got caught by what I think was a LPO. It was and has been my only illegal act.
I was 14 at the time and he pulled me into some backroom.
He had me sign a few papers and then had me write down an apology/confession. He took a picture of items; I don't remember him taking a picture of me nor taking my fingerprints.

The LPO threatened to call the police, but ultimately decided not to.
The only things i recall clearly are being yelled at by my father and the LPO, and the LPO banning me from the store for two years.
I don't remember if he had my father sign any papers, but he did tell him that some monetary fine would come in the mail.

I think my father payed it, as nothing else ever happened after that.

It's been four years and I still haven't forgiven myself, but i've taken it as motivation to give back to the community.
    But that's beside the point.

I was wondering if I would possibly have a criminal record/history.
The police weren't called but I can't help but be paranoid. COuld he have filed anything after I left? It's been four years and no court orders or warrants have been brought to my attention.
I've spent the past few days trying to figure out what to do.
The reason the whole ordeal came back to me was because I've decided to apply as a teaching-aide in chemistry next year. I'm sure they're going to do a background check.

I'm also planning on applying to med-school. Would anything appear when they run a criminal history/background check?

Lastly, would it be possible for me to obtain my personal criminal history to check for myself? I don't know if i have a criminal record.
Would it be on a juvenile record because of my age?

    Thanks for your time.

You might belong to a database of shoplifters that store uses, but no criminal charges were ever filed against you from the sound of things, there is always a chance, but the odds of having a pending warrant you don't know about at this point are astronomical. Nothing should appear on your background check, hopefully somebody else knows more about finding your own criminal history, but I wouldn't be too worried.

How could I find out if I have any warrants?

I realize it's been four years and it's unlikely, but i really don't want to have the stupid choice I made back then hold me back from improving who I am now.

I apologize for posting again, but i can't seem to find the edit button on this forum layout.

I found out where and how i'll be able to look at my records and such.

The only concerns I have now are whether or not I actually have a record.
The LPO didn't call the police while I was in the backroom. But if he did call the police, would they have contacted me by now? After four years I mean.
What if there is a bench warrant? Is that likely?
And if I did have a record, would it be a juvenile record?

    Thanks

Also, since the inicident was 4 years ago, had the store decided to press charges, you would have had to gone to juvenile court and WITH your parents. This is not something that you would have missed. So the chances of you having a warrent are less than slim and none. You have nothing to worry about.
If you still insist on persuing this, you can try the back ground checks section of this forum for advice. You can also google for a criminal background check, some compaines will do it for about 40 bucks.
