    Default Discrimination In The Courtroom

Have a relative in jail (New York State). They haven't yet been charged, awaiting their day in court; is currently being held in local county jail. Charges pending are conspiracy to sell controlled substance (heroin). The court appointed lawyer told my relative that the Judge is in the District Attorney's pocket. Then the lawyer told my relative that the case has turned out to be a black and white issue. The 2nd person who was arrested along with my relative has been sentenced to two years. However, my relative is told by his court appointed attorney that the district attorney wants to give them double what the 2nd person has been sentenced.

Is this legal? Would this be a human rights issue? Does my relative have any recourse?

In what fashion is this a "black and white" issue?

And where would there be a human rights violation? There is no human right to possess or distribute heroin.

It sounds to me like the other guy turned stool pigeon in exchange for a lesser sentence.
