Hello-
Having just come through the crowded River Road toll booth eastbound into Chicago on I-90 at rush hour, I was hit (lightly - bumper to bumper traffic) by a semi-truck as a changed into his lane with the merging traffic. An officer of the State Police as well as my insurance company both found me at fault, even though the truck was behind me and I was clear to merge until he kept coming right into me. Apparently, you just have to yield to the left lane if your right lane is ending. This all makes objective sense to me, but at a packed rush hour toll plaza, this would mean that legally, nobody would be able to move until the leftmost lane was completely clear, and then the second-to-the-left, and so on.
I'm contesting my violation for Improper Lane Usage, which, legally, I suppose I deserved, but wouldn't everyone on the road have been guilty of this, and I'm just the only one who got hit by a truck?
Many thanks for reading,
Todd
