Just trying to find out some information.
With our particular situation, my husband was sent overseas for several years (Korea and then straight to Iraq) so he lost touch with his kids. Once he returned he tried to reconnect with them, but they told him they wanted nothing to do with him and for him to stay out of their lives. They would not return letters, emails or phone calls. His ex just said that it was their choice and she would let them make their own decisions. They claimed they had a new father. So my husband dropped the visitation case and abided by their wishes. We do continue to pay child support for kids that do not want to see or know him, which we have accepted.
I am trying to find out if we will be responsible for the orthodontic care that my husband's ex is trying to get us to pay. The court orders are from Washington State and they say both parents must provide health insurance coverage. Does this include dental coverage for braces? She is also claiming that we are responsible for 76% of the bill because our court orders state that we have to pay 74.3% of any extraordinary costs for health care. I keep stating that braces are a cosmetic issue and optional so we shouldn't be required to pay.
My other question is in regards to college expenses. I know each state is different but I am trying to find out what our chances are of not having to pay with Washington's law of discretionary orders. Could we be forced to pay for kids education that told us to get out of their lives and not ever call them again?
Thanks for your help.
