    Those are exceptions and not the norm. Most companies have many specific guidelines and procedures for Civil Demand which are followed carefully.

    Lord & Taylor, for instance, never follows up civil-demand letters by suing suspected shoplifters, its loss-prevention manager said in deposition about a year ago, citing the cost of going to court.
    I am not so sure that this is actual company policy....don't take it as gospel.
