    Default Background checks of volunteers

The local church is performing a background search for all volunteer parents in California. They are conducting the search themselves just using a fingerprint scan company to transmit info to the state DOJ. Since not using a third party, how far back can they go with respect to misdemeanors? It seems to be seven years if a third party service provider.

    Default Criminal Background Checks

Presumably they will receive whatever information is in the records of the DOJ (or whatever other records service they are using). As criminal records tend not to go away by themselves, they will probably get information older than seven years old. The question then becomes, what they do with it.
