Angry Can I Change The Locks?

My stepdaughter will not provide me with keys to the home that I co-own with her. She had the locks changed

I do not live there but want to rent out my share of the house to someone.

I am on the deed and title as a co-owner.

Can I legally change the locks and provide her with a key and let the tennant that I selected have a key and move in?

I know a police escort might be beneficial but it is hard coordinating the locksmith and the police escort to arrive at the same time. '

I am thinking about doing it whether she is there or not. It should not matter if I have a legal right to access the property. Right?

    I am in california

So basically you and your stepdaughter co-own a home - is this a home you jointly inherited from her father? She lives there. You want to rent out part of the house and foist an unwanted roommate upon her, so she changed the locks. And you're wondering if the sheriff will force her to let an unwanted roommate move in?

Your better approach would be to either buy her share, have her buy your share, or sell the house and split the money.

Stepdaughter locked her out when she was on vacation.
