Question Looking For A Free Copy Of Criminal History

I was arrested for shoplifting ($12 pair of sunglasses) in Phoenix about 9 or 10 years ago when I was 19 or 20. I spent the night in jail and paid about $2000 when all was said and done. Since then, I've been working in bars/restaurants where criminal background checks are rarely done. I am trying to get a job in the corporate world and am hoping this will not prevent me from switching careers. I'm wondering if there is a way for me to get a copy of my record without paying for it . . . because there seems to be a $40 fee everywhere I've looked. I want to know what possible employers are seeing on my record . . . theft, petty theft, an old charge that was expunged . . .?? Any advice would be appreciated . . .

    Thank you!

I would be leary of free criminal records. spend the 40 bucks. by the way when you fill out an application many ony ask for convictions within a certain time frame (like 10 years) thsi means if past that time frame you can say no when asked if convicted of a crime.

Usually police reports are $5 or $10 at the police station. Court abstracts are usually $10-$25 at the courthouse, but might be more dependent upon the size of the case. The final decision of the judge is usually near the end of the file or on top at the beginning. If you are not local the court will likely charge an administrative research fee and less than $1 for the copy.
