Post Minor Caught Shoplifting, First Time Offense, in Minnesota

A few days ago I was caught shoplifting at an Urban Outfitters. I know it was stupid and I'm sorry I did it, not my proudest moment. It was a $16.00 item and the police weren't called. I'm 17, I'll be 18 in a month. My mom had to come pick me up and sign something and they told me I'm not allowed in the store for 3 years. I was just wondering what else will probably happen? Is there going to be court involved or will I just have to pay a fine? It's my first offense, but does it matter at all that I'll be 18 in only a month?

You will receive a civil fine letter from the store.

Police weren't involved, so it isn't on your record and court won't be an issue since criminal charges were not filed.

If it changes where you are getting charged with criminal charges, post back. However, I doubt that is going to happen.

The store has until the statue of limitations runs out to file charges against you, which is typically 1 or 2 years after the incident.

so if they wait until I turn 18 in a little less than a month to send me the civil demand letter thing..will it be put on my record? If I was 17 when it happened will it matter if I'm 18 when they send the letter or no?

Civil demand letters have nothing to do with a criminal record.

    As I stated earlier:
