    Default Am I Really "Exempt"?

I have been told I was considered "exempt". I was informed I don't get overtime, but I have to be "on call" beyond my 8hr day. Its been this way for years and no one has told me anything different except my new neighbor. I take care of an apartment building. I am on the Big Island.

    Does it matter anyway?

It's true that exempt employees do not get paid overtime - they get paid a fixed salary no matter how many hrs. they work.

Whether you are exempt depends on your salary but mainly your job duties.

I'll go ahead & give you the federal fact sheet for exempt employees also.

If we knew your salary & complete job duties, we might be able to help you see if you are exempt. Maybe the links will help you.
