I left my job as a full-time Administrative Assistant at a museum for a better paying job as a temp. I had to file for unemployment as the temp assignments were few and far between. While at the museum, I would help out with special events when needed walking around with a walkie-talkie guarding exhibits or making sure patrons didn't put their glass of wine on a railing, etc. I did this a few times, but would have to leave after a few hours due to lower back pain (I was in an automobile accident two years ago). The strain of standing on my feet for so long was a killer.
When I left the museum, they had hired a temp to help out with HR, I guess she does all of the HR now and doesn't know her job. The museum claimed I was offered work and turned it down. I now have to attend an appeal hearing on February 21. I wrote in my appeal that I had worked full-time as an Administrative Assistant and the work they "offered" me was as a part-time Special Events position. I explained I had to leave after a few hours due to back pain from standing for long periods of time. I left a voicemail for the Special Events Assistant who did the scheduling and who I'd complain about my back pain and inform I needed to leave and asked her to attend the hearing.
It's UI Code 1257(b) Did the claimant refuse an offer or a referral to suitable work without good cause.
Any advice as to what else I can do?
Thank you,
Sweet Lo
