    Question Switching Tags At Marshalls

    hi,

I went to Marshalls in the state of Illinois last week returning about 10 items of clothing, I switched the tags in 4 of them, placing them on the items from another store, the customer service guy suspected something about one shirt, went to his manager, manager checked on the computer, found out that the tag didn't belong to the item I returned, so he realized that the tag was misplaced. Then, he didn't tell me anything, but he took all the items back and refunded me the money, but he asked for my ID (which they never do while taking returns with a debit card) and wrote down my address, full name, and driver's license number on the back of the receipt. Then I left; I don't know if they checked the rest of the items. While they were refunding me the money they were looking at me like I was a criminal. What does it all mean? Why did they do it? Will they put me in the system? Or I should expect something more serious?

No one can really predict if they will or will not file criminal charges but I doubt it. Its very likely though that your name license number etc will be put in a store database as someone they will not process returns for without reciept

They looked at you like you were a Criminal! LOL That is funny... because you ARE ONE! Hello are you awake. They will give the info to LP who will start a case on you or they might have already. They will build the proof they need until it is good enough to get charges filed. That includes all the TJ Maxx stores in the area. They work together because it is the same company. I would NEVER go back to any TJ Maxx or Marshalls and you should be fine unless you have done alot of this in the past. If so that could have been the last straw they needed to break the your back.

The best advice I can give you is STOP SHOPLIFTING. Yes, Ticket switching is considered shoplifting.
