Back Child Support After Adoption

I just adopted my wifes 4 year old from her previous marriage. The child's biological fathers rights were terminated due to lack of support and not seeing her in 17 months. The state was involved at one point trying to get child support for her. Apparently he can not get a driver license because he owes back support in excess of $17,000. We are choosing not to go after the birth father for the money (we just wanted the adoption) but can the state go after him and through the family support registry send us the money? We live in Colorado.

If this is true, why are you asking?

If you all don't want the money, file through the court to forgive the arrears. If she was not on state aid, it is not very likely the state will go after him.

We are asking because we don't know if a check could just start showing up. She was on state aid, foodstamps, wic and medicaid. We will not pursue anything even going to court to forgive arrears. We just didn't know to what extent the state would gt involved.
