Default Probation Travel Limits and Geographical Limit Of Court Jurisdiction In New York

I am looking for some advice however will of course consult my probation officer or the court prior to taking any action. I haven't had my first meeting with them yet and was just sentenced.

I am on probation in New York State. My probation is being overseen by the probation department of a specific county within new york state.

One condition of the probation is that I am not to leave the "jurisdiction" of the court without approval of the court or my probation officer. This is the county court. However there are different types of "jurisdictions".

I have done some research on the internet regarding where the jurisdiction of a county court extends to within new york state and know for example that a warrant issued by county court could be used to arrest a person anywhere within NY (was in the NYS constitution). I also understand that since my initial crime was committed within this county that the county court has jurisdiction over that criminal matter and also over myself personally since I am on probation.

What geographical area constitutes the "jurisdiction" of the county court?

Does this mean that I could not leave the county without permission or could not leave the state without permission?

Does anyone have experience with county level probation within new york state?

I appreciate any advice on this matter.

I believe that means you may not leave the county.

Obviously, you'll need to discuss it with your PO to be certain - s/he will be able to explain your terms in details.

I would interpret that, generally, as your not being allowed to leave the state without permission. But yes, to find out for certain, ask your probation officer. We haven't seen the terms of your probation.
