Hi, first of all, I am an idiot. I got myself arrested for a public intoxication (class B misdemeanor) and a battery charge (also a class B misdemeanor and a long story) in the great state of Indiana. I have yet to go to court, but will in the next week or two (First week of February). I am not sure if they will do a sentencing then, but I did talk to my lawyer who worked out a plea bargain with the prosecutor. This would include having my battery charge dropped. The public intoxication charge would stay on my record so I would have one class B misdemeanor. Also, one of the conditions of the plea bargain is a year of unsupervised probation.
I have been planning a trip to Europe for a year now... I would be leaving mid March and I have already bought plane tickets and everything. In the event that I am sentenced during my hearing, what is the likelihood that I will not be able to go on this trip? I know that you can talk to your probation officer about making travel arrangements and everything, and I know that you can apply for international travel. But would they really grant that to someone who just got put on probation? Even if the person had bought tickets so long ago? Any help would be appreciated...
