Post Defamation or Slander On A Public Website

Im not sure if I am posting this to the right forum, but, I just needed some advice. I used to be friends with my fiancess mother. When we decided to get a place together she started harassing me verbally and then on a public blog. She started posting false accusations on a public blog that included my legal first and last name and started threatening me as well. She said things that if someone I worked with saw it, I could be fired.

I just need to know if there is anything I can do.

Laws governing harassment and defamation vary by state. Your rights depend upon the nature of the accusations and the laws of your state. In most cases, in the absence of significant economic harm (monetary losses) it's not worth trying to sue somebody for defamation.

You chose not to follow the instruction to identify your state, and you are (understandably) short on details, so consult a lawyer in your state. You can probably find one who will give you a free consultation.

Thank you for your information. I live in Texas and I am not interested in sueing anyone for monetary issues. I am wanting to know if the issues that were stated in the blog could be a criminal offense as this person is claiming a serious criminal allegation against me which is not true, but I just wanted to know if this was just a civil case or could it be a criminal case.

    Thanks

Did she threaten you in any way or extort you or harass you? if yes, go to the police.

You can try asking the site owner to remove it but if the page is selling advertising it will be tough as they are immune from liability (unless they edit it).

You can try burying the results to get it off the first few pages of Google.

You posted to an old thread from 1-08. The original poster has not posted on this forum since then.
