I am an adult who has a 16 friend. Her mother has told her that when she went to court to get her ex-husband to legally be able to stop paying child support that she also had her daughter emancipated. When the girl told me this I was suspicious. The girl lives at home with her mother and step father, has only held a job, in the past, for one week, has no way of supporting herself, and was not present or informed that anything like this was to take place. Upon reading some of the questions and answers that have been posted on this web site about emancipation laws in the state of Kentucky I am even more confused to find out that there is not even an emancipation law set up in this state. I don't really want to interfere and get in between her and her mother, but she is really confused. Her mother withdrew her from school a few months ago and told her to get her GED but has not yet helped her in getting anything set up to get involved with getting it. I do recall that she informed her daughter that she needed to get a job but the girl has no license or car to get to a job. The girl has called me several times wanting me to take her to put in applications and different things but I am not sure what I should actually do in this situation. I am not even real sure what to say to her when she says that her mother told the court that she didn't want anymore child support. Is that even legal. It is not like they are well-to-do. Is there someone that I should be telling this child to talk to because I just don't know what to tell her and she doesn't understand what is going on.
