A great many factors can potentially go into sentencing. Your husband's best bet is to ask his lawyer to estimate his likely sentence, based upon his criminal history, the full facts of the offense, and the ultimate plea bargain or conviction charge.

Really the best you can do at this point is get him a good attorney. It's not the court's job to tell him to go to a doctor and/or get therapy for his issues. And if they do so, the expense will be out of his pocket anyway, so start looking for programs that he can get into to get the help he needs. Start with your local United Way, they can give you referrals in your area to programs that might have sliding scale fees or accept his insurance. If he gets a criminal sentence, he'll get very little in the way of that type of help behind bars, so start looking NOW in preparation for when he gets out.

I merged your threads. Please keep your posts on this question in one thread. That helps you, also - you did have a reply.

His attorney may force the issue on the mental health disorder and force the county to treat him. In some cases treatment costs are absorbed by the county and people have bond lowered. However, if the contempt charge was because he was stupid and did not show up to court, it is likely that a judge will not lower the bond amount.

Usually a bail bondsman charges 10%-15% to write the bond, the higher amount if the person is likely to fail to appear in court.
