Here is a very sad, but true story. A divorced mother of 3 has died suddenly. She had sole custody of the children. The father is despised by the maternal grandparents. The grandparents were very controlling of the daughter and worked very hard at alienating the father from the children. When the mother of the children died, the grandparents actually hid the children from thier father and did not even tell him of his ex-wife's death. The oldest child called her father from her cell phone the next morning and told him. The child's cell phone was then switched with one of the grandparents' so they could monitor the calls. The father has one child with him now, but the other two are still being hidden away. The grandparents are in the process of petitioning the court for custody of all three of them. What rights do they have, and what charges, if any can be brought against them for hiding these children from thier father? They all live in the state of Vermont. These poor children were kept from the whole family throughout this whole ordeal, not even being able to attend thier mother's funeral. They were being shuffled from house to house so that the father would not be able to find them.
