I Work as a nanny, and was parked on the curb in the private community I work in. There were small signs at the entrances stating the name of the company that would tow your car. These signs DO NOT COMPLY with the florida tow sign laws. I am sure of this. I also believe that the place I was towed from is outside of the radius allowed in hillsborough county in florida. I was parked just on the other side of the no parking sign in the degsinated parking spot. The tow company took a picture of my car but in it you can see no no parking indicator painted on the curb. When I pointed this out they then decided to tell me that I had been towed for being parked on the grass. Now about 1 INCH of one of my tires was hanging over the curb. it was NOT ON the grass. It was however over the edge by about an inch, but did not go onto the grass. The grass is cut lower than this. I am figuring out now if the property manager athorized my car to be towed or if an unauthorized party called and then I was towed. This will let me know who I am going to try to collect my damages from. I just don't really know what to do. Is being over the curb by an inch enough to be called "on the grass" There was a huge sign indicating there was a designated parking area. There had been no parking signs but they were removed about two months ago. Now all there are is a dull yellow paint near where I parked on the curb indicating no parking, but again I WAS IN THE DESIGNATED PARKING AREA! I really don't know what to do. Who is responsible for compensating me. Should I file in small claims court? Will I just be out $65.00 if I do and never recover the $165.00 I had to pay to get my car back? The man who towed my car was so rude to me. I don't know what to do. I am so angry. Please help!
