Unhappy Prosecution of Shoplifting Well After The Fact

Here is the situation: let's say you go to the same clothing store several times and steal clothes in the dressing room. LP is not on to you. You are not watched. LP has not seen you conceal anything. No one can later verify that you left the dressing room with fewer items than you went in with (employees did not check, and sometimes there was already clothing in the dressing room). so you leave the store with the items.

Now here's the concern: if they take regular inventory they will come up with missing items. let's say they decide to comb through hours of video.
NOW THE ONLY VIDEO THEY HAVE ON YOU IS TAKING THE MISSING ITEMS TO THE DRESSING ROOM. Can they later do anything or is this not enough evidence??? of course, this will never be done again, pretty scared already. (also, this is a busy department store with hundreds of people a day.)

I doubt you have anything to worry about.

Here are two peices of advice, though:

    #1 NEVER DO IT AGAIN!

#2 Stay out of that store.

thanks for the reply. I certainly will never do this again. this has been eating away at me day and night for a week now. I am actaully a school teacher, so you can imagine the harm this would do me. if there were some way i could return the stuff without admitting guilt, i would. But the reality of the situation prevents anythinh like this.

Don't feel to bad about yourself. You made a mistake, but thats part of being human. You appear to have learned from it.

I should add that if they see you in the store and have some suspicions, they may just watch you closely. But if you never go back, unless someone knows you, they simply don't know your name and where to find you. Also, if they see you going into a dressing room and coming out with fewer items than you brought in, and that are not in the dressing room, they have to catch you immediately, not months later. Mind you, if you are on camera coming in and out of a dressing room, anything could have happened. Maybe the clothes were hidden in the dressing room under other clothes or you carried them back to the sales floor but that's not clear from the picture. To prove that this is not the case, they have to do it on the spot.
