    Default Illegal Eviction

    good evening,

Let's assume for the moment, that there has been in illegal "self-help" eviction in New Jersey. (the locks were changed on the apartment door, WITHOUT, required notices, documentation, or court order).

    a) is there civil liability?
    b) is the person evicted entiled to damages?
    c) if entitled to damages, how are they(the damages) calulated.

thanks in advance for any and all help.

Yes, there is a potential cause of action, and there are lawyers who would likely accept such a case on behalf of the wrongfully evicted tenant.
