State of Georgia.

I have a couple things being handled by an attorney. I have to practically beg for an appointment to even speak to him. One case he is "handling" took over 1.5 years to even draw up a paper to file the case.
The other, he promised to have it done within 3 weeks and if he couldn't do it, there would be no charge for. I sent the $2500 up front. That was 10 months ago. Still nothing done on it.
When I lived in the same town as he does and where the cases are, he jumped on everything right away. But, I have since moved and he all but forgot about me and this cases.

One of the cases is coming up in Feb 08 and he knows it is going to be postponed, but has yet to inform me. His assistant told me without his knowledge and told me not to say the she told me. That it is his job but, nost likely, he will say nothing until the morning of the trial. I have to fly in for this trial and he is willing to let me waste my time and money.

But, I have a plan: I will fly in, I have to {just in case}. But, if he says nothing until I show up, I want to replace him with someone that wants to do the job.

Here are my questions: What are the issues I have to face about this? How do I go about doing it in a professional manner? Can he flip sides and serve the defendant? Can he, out of anger or revenge, give sensitive information to to defendants' attorney?
From the defendant's point of view, what are the ramifications of switching attorneys? How does this damage the case?

Don't get me wrong, my current attorney is a damned good one, maybe even on of the best, but, I feel like I have been put on the backburner by him. The past 2 years, though, he has done pretty much nothing other than file one paper and refuses to return any phone calls. Even his assistant says he is running one of the shoddiest operations of any she has ever worked and doesn't understand why he ignores his clients.

So, what are my options? Should I arrange a visit with him and have a serious sit down, or do you think it is a waste of time? Should I take my chances and hire another attorney? Again, what are the issues I face by doing so? And, if I did replace him, does everything have to be refiled and start over? The current attorney waited until just before the SOL ran out to begin with, so does replacing and refiling affect the SOL?
