Default Being Sued Over Credit Card Debt in Tennessee

A couple days after getting married, I was served a summons to appear in court by a firm that bought an old credit card debt of mine.

The credit card was from 1999 - 2001, the limit was $2500, but I'm being sued for $5500. I have a vehicle in my name, and my husband put my name on his checking. I've been unable to find a lawyer I can afford, what is going to happen when I go to court alone? Thank you in advance, "scared to death"

Was that a note to yourself, Mike?

The limitations period appears to be six years, so depending on the dates involved this could be timely.

No that was empowering people to do some research on their own instead of sticking the ba-ba in their mouth and singing them a lulaby to go back to sleep.

When was the last action taken on the card (ie date of last payment). If the SOL has expired, that is the defense you can use when going to court.

Thank you, but I already know the SOL is 7 years, I've done some research, but found nothing to tell me what may happen in court. I have children and do not want to go to jail.

I don't have any proof of when the last payment was, and am still looking through old boxes in the hopes that I may find it. Guess in this case S.O.L. has a couple meanings. Thanks

A civil lawsuit results in a money judgment, not a jail term.
