Default Interesting Name Change With Marriage

I figured this was the best place to ask this....it's complicated. My wife and I (as of Oct 2007, living in PA, Delaware County), went to get our names on our licenses changed. Here's all the facts:
-My parents never married, but had my name hyphenated, taking both of their last names when I was young
-I still have both the original and hyphenated birth certificates
-My wife and I want to change both of our names to my original, non-hyphenated name
-our marriage license has her maiden name, and my hyphenated name
-social security cards have already been changed with no problem because I had my original birth certificate

What do we do to get our new licenses? If I go to court and change my name back to my original, the marriage license still has my old hyphenated name. Will my wife be able to change her name to my new one with a court order for my name? I really thought the Social security cards and birth certificates would do it. Plus, I also heard that you can get a license with an "alias" name on it at any time. If this is true, why is PennDOT giving us such a hard time, when social security didn't? Thanks so much.
