just called the garbage company the other day and they said my former tenants that just moved out owes them a HUMONGOUS balance. can i deduct it from their security deposit? we're talking in the hundreds.
the garbage bill was in their name. i realize the property owner is ultimately responsible; lien can be placed on property if not paid.
the lease states: The Tenant is responsible for the payment of the following utilities and other charges in relation to the Premises: GAS/ELECTRIC, PHONE, CABLE, WATER AND SEWER.
although the word "garbage" was omitted, i feel the word "other" covers it. your thoughts?
forgot to state: property in CA, Solano County
