Possession Of Marijuana In Another State

I am from Montana or at least have a Montana driver's license and just got pulled over for expired tags on my father's vehicle in Oregon. The officer searched the vehicle for bomb threats or related items and found marijuana of less than one ounce. I received a ticket for base fine of 1000 dollars of which i have researched and found to be only 500 minimum in Oregon. Is this true?

Also, I would like to know if since I am a resident of Montana and am leaving Oregon on the 5th of Jan. and my court date is scheduled for Jan 28th (in Oregon), can i go to court in Montana? If so, under their penalties or Oregon's? If not, what can i do?
