How can the parents of a runaway relieve themselves of responsibility for her actions? She(16) has been a runaway for the past 6 week on and off, mostly on. Each time we file a new report with the police. She was picked up for shoplifting at a department store for a $15 dollar item and sent to juvenile detention for a few hours. Now the department store’s lawyers are coming after us for $200 because we are liable. They retrieved the merchandise and there is no court case so we’re not sure why they want $200. She was dropped off there by one of her friend’s mother who knows she is a runaway. Is there anything we can do to clear us of her actions or against the friends mother?
