    Default Polka dot paint job

Problems with neighbors always start out with a little dispute and can escalade further as time goes by...

I have such neighbors, Yes, both neighbors on each side of me. They have been friends for over 30+ years. The house i bought between them was owned by a dear departed friend of theirs. I have nothing against them but It has gotten out of hand which they constantly call and complain about every little thing. Is this harassment? Not sure, but im getting sick of it.

The latest complaint they have is about peeling paint on my house. the city has officially, in letter form, told me to get the house painted by a certain date. I have no problem with this.

Just the other day, i talked to one of the neighbors to tell him to back off on the complaints. He said he will talk to the other people that are complaining (which i know he is the biggest complainer of them all) and ask them if they would like to back off a bit. In the same conversation, he said they may or may not unless i get the painting done. He also said its unsightly to try and sell a house in the neighborhood with a house in my condition. (Oh wow, few spots of peeling paint on the gable ends) I just repeated myself and told him to tell them (and i know he is the instigator of it all) to back off for a bit so I can get some stuff done...

Know, for my question, as I have gotten a few more complaints since that conversation a few days ago, I have decided to paint my house with big Neon Purple Polka dots... Would this be illegal?

Just a little note: My house is not in a Historical zone and i can not find any laws about this in North Dakota in case your woundering....

Default Regulations on Appearance of House

Even outside of a historical district there may be zoning ordinances, perhaps an anti-blight ordinance, which would (or could be argued to) apply to such a paint job. It's worth checking before you embark on such a plan, with whichever governmental unit has zoning authority over your property.

Interesting to find this recent post of yours. Over the previous two days (day before Halloween/Halloween) I have painted my house purple with pink polka dots. The polka dots are of 4 sizes and I'm going to have them shaded and lighted so that they look like floating shiny bubbles. Originally they were just going to be polka dots. I'll let you know how the city of Burlington, VT reacts to my house.
