    Default Disabled And In Debt

In the beginning of 2004 my credit rating was at around the 700 mark..A month later, after feeling extremely fatigue and unsteady on my feet I went to a doctor and one examination led to the other, shortly thereafter, I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis..Not being able to work, and not yet getting any disability(I am now), my credit has taken a big tumble..
My disability pay allowes me to live..But, I could never repay my debt...
Will I ever be able to rent a place in a safe neighborhood, with my bad credit..Or, can I ever hope to be a homeowner again?
I feel I did not ask for MS..Holding me responsible for debts I can no longer pay, is just another way of kicking a man when he's down..
Thanks for any help you may provide...

What is the name of your state, please.

What type of debts are these & when was the last action taken on them (ie date last payment made)?

Do you have any income and/or assets other than your disability payments?

I'm sympathic but you are still responsible for your debts disabled or not. The creditors still want and are owed their money. Usually they can't come after disability payments though - still need name of your state.

    Thanks.

I still don't have a lot of info here. I don't know what the amt. of your debt is or what type of debts you have. However; if a creditor gets a judgment against you for non-payment of your debts, they shouldn't be able to come after your SS disability payments. However, they can seize any other assets you might have that are non-exempt from seizure. (What they can seize varies by state.) If you have no assets, there would be nothing they could seize. A judgment usually lasts for quite a few yrs. & can normally be renewed so if you come into any add'l. income or assets in the future, they may be able to seize them.

I don't know the amount of your debt, as I noted previously, but maybe bankruptcy would be a consideration if you would qualify based on your debt, income/assets.

You may have to look around but normally a person, even with bad credit, will be able to find an apt. if they have an income.
