I would like to know if DNA can differentiate between someone being your child or your sibling. My friend has a very young sibling and she is convinced that when they do a DNA test, he can pass as her son so that she can take care of him. Any views?

She thinks she can bring a paternity action against her own mother, to have her mother removed from the child's birth certificate and herself added?
No, her parents are in another country and she is resident here. Her parents actually want her to take care of her brother and bring him up as her own since they can't afford to take care of him.
The issue remains, how does she plan to sue for paternity... er, maternity, in the country where the child is born. She's not the child's mother, and she's not on the child's birth certificate.
