I was told by many dealers, when looking for a car to buy, I have a month to get car insurance. Well I bought a car and drove it of the lot with no car insurance a couple weeks later I got in a car accident. I was turning into a turning lane and a girl was speeding up to the light. At first no one new who's fault it was but her insurance company is now saying it's my fault and wants to talk to my insurance company. They also sent a letter stating if I didn't have insurance at the time then I could lose my license and have my tags revoked at DMV. Is this true? Do you always have to give your insurance info even though you're not at fault? Is there a law about giving up insurance information if your not at fault? What if you want to take care of it on your own with out your insurance involved? The bottom line is I called the car dealership that I bought my car phone, small lot, and the dealer said that I had garage insurance not insurance for a full month to drive on. I know this was a big mistake not to check, but now I could lose my license and I need help. Do I have to call this company and give them information about insurance when I'm still trying to fight that it wasn't my fault? Also is there any way that if this goes to court that they can bring up the fact that I had no insurance? Please advise! Thanks!
