Someone close to me who lives in Florida, brought their computer to a local Staples because he was experiencing problems with viruses and worms ect... After a few days he called and was given the run around. Weeks went by no computer. Finally he demanded to know what was going on only to be told by the manager the computer had been turned into the police. Apparently the computer contained some pictures which the employees at Staples deemed to be child pornography. The person in question admits to looking at porn on his computer but not child porn. The police interviewed him on the phone that was 3 months ago. No charges have been filed however the police still have the computer which contains 1000's of irreplaceable (non-pornographic) family photos. He has called the detective almost everyday for the last month, but she refuses to return his phone calls and will not talk to him when he goes into the police headquaters. Can we ever get the personal photos back? How? Should he contact a lawyer? What is the legality of the store looking through his files?
