Default High Civil Demand After Shoplifting

I received a ticket for shoplifting in target. Now target is suing me in civil court.. I understand I will more then likely have to pay it. But how do I find out if the amount they are asking for is withing reason. I am in Texas and the amount target is asking for is $524.oo. the amount shoplifted was less than $40.00.

    thanks,
    Jude

Its legal if you chose to fight Target will raise price and you could be held accountable for legal costs and court costs

Nothing is stopping you from trying to negotiate a smaller amount. Some people have reported here that they have successfully negotiated reductions in the civil demand.
