Home country employment while in US H1-B

I am wondering if it is legal for me to accept payment from my former employer in Canada (where I am from) to do some consulting work here WHILE I am employed full-time as a teacher in H1-B status. I know that I can't work for another US company without a 2nd H1-B visa, but nowhere can I find if it is okay to accept employment from my home country at the same time.

Can anyone help me out or had a similar situation?

From a public policy perspective there doesn't seem to be a reason why not - there's no effect on the greater U.S. employment market. Actually, it arguably brings additional funds into the U.S. economy.

But I can't find anything which gives a firm answer. (I did find a forum where somebody asked the same question two years ago - with no reply.) So if I were you I would consult an immigration lawyer or perhaps see if I could get an answer directly from the USCIS.
