    Default Refund fraud

At work I am being accused of stealing nearly $1000 in fraudulent cash refunds. Yesterday a Loss Prevention officer came and interviewed me. He told me that they had me on camera and that I had to sign a confession. I wouldn't and he told me that I was just getting myself into more trouble. He then told me to go back out on the sales floor and not to tell anybody else about it. He sat in the back room with the store manager for about 15 minutes and then he left stating that he would be back in about an hour, 6 hours later and he never returned. I just don't understand how if they say they have me on tape, it's not just open and shut.

    Default Video Evidence

You know better than we can, if there is any chance that they have video evidence of you engaged in refund fraud. They may have been bluffing to try to get you to sign the confession.

Well I thought the guy was bluffing. He kept telling me that if I signed the confession that everything would be all right. But if you're innocent why would you sign it?

    Default Signing a Confession

He can lie to you to get you to sign the confession, then turn it over to the police.

You did the BEST thing by not signing it. If they really thought they had you cold they would have fired you on the spot. Telling you to go back on the sales floor and not tell anyone else? Sounds like their not sure who did it. I'd definatley have a discussion with your boss and make sure nothing got into your personel file and let the boss know your highly offended and never did any such thing. By doing that your boss might let you know what the real deal about all of it was. Please keep us posted. I'm very interested as to where (what company) this took place and what happens over time with this.

I just realized that I forgot to mention that the store I work for has absolutly NO cameras in it. We have one of the highest shrink rates because of this. I went to work today and nothing happened, but it seems like everybody knows that I'm the #1 suspect. I didn't tell anybody except my parents ( just in case I got arrested or something). It's so embarassing! I wish I didn't have to go back! I would prefer not naming the company just in case.

I'm sure they would have done more than fire me!
$1000 is a lot of money I'm sure they would have had me arrested!
Why would they let somebody go if they have UNDENIABLE (video) proof that they stole that much $$$.

    Default Prison and Lawyer

Does anybody know who or what determines which kind of prison you would go to for a crime like this ( transitional, minimum, maximum security)?
and do you usually get sent to a facility in the state that you live in?
And just in case: does anybody have any recommendation for a lawyer? How much does a lawyer usually charge?

First of all at this point you should talk to a lawyer. You might be able to charge THEM with deflimation of character. They are accusing you with no proof. Lawyers have free consultations, I'd find one in your area if I were you.
