I was caught shoplifting in California.
Total of items was , $200.
The items were in my purse.
I proceeded to pay the other items in my cart, I was stopped right before I reached the exit.
It was all a desperate attempt and was caught.
I was cooperative with both the LP and the officer when he arrived.
I was given a citation and released.
I HAVE retained an attorney as I do not wish to go to court empty handed.
He said it was better to have an attorney plea not guilty for me and ask for charges to be lowered. In this case, my case might be hard to dismiss.
I am hoping that this will go down to infraction because I have mentioned to him that my career is towards the health fields. Also, from other offices that I have spoken to they said having some type of "character portfolio" might be helpful. I have gathered letters of reference from personal friends and employers. Awards, diploma and pictures from school.
Please know that I will promise not to do what I did ever again.
I didn't think that being caught might or will have a MAJOR affect on my considered career.
Now for the questions:
Is there anything else I should be ready for?
How long does a restitution letter take to arrive?
Also, one thing that has keeping me awake: since I was caught, will the store look back into their old videotapes and check to see if I have shoplifted there before to make a BIGGER case?
I'm really worried about that.
Please help me answer my questions and don't be judgemental.
I am an adult and I'm trying to settle this problem all on my own and I want to know when I might start to see the light at the end of this tunnel.
Thank you.
