I recently applied for a job in FL, I live in MI however I have no completed any paperwork yet for a background check for the FL position.
My situation is such when I applied for my current position (2006) in a hospital the HR rep told me I had something about a bad check on my record from 1997. I called NC sense I was there from 1997 to 2000 in the military found out what it was which was a bounced check to Walmart and paid the $300 charges. I didnt know it was out there until this background check 2006 which was 10 years later or I woul have paid it 10 years ago. I never got any paperwork for court because I moved alot in the military. In the last 10 years I have worked with banks and other hospitals who never told me about this.
This new position I am applying for I dont know what to do? I was told a misdeanor stays on your record forever in NC but do I explain this information to the new institution even if there records do not show it? is there a way have this expunged? My feeling is tell them anyway even if it does not show because if it does it wont look like I lied because the charges were paid 10 years later so I would have had to known. Please advise this position is a career move I have been waiting on.
