Default A Friend Who Was Helping To Sell My Property Instead Helped Steal It

I am downsizing from a 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment. I put the word out that I was selling some of my furniture. I didn't want to pay to run an ad in newspaper and didn't feel comfortable having a garage sale.
A male friend of mine (who shall be named JIM) offered to help. What basically happened is he helped himself. The first incident JIM brought over someone who buys entire estates. He was not interested to my disappointment.
Later that evening while I was sleeping, JIM sent over a friend of his (Jeremy), to tell me the gentleman that was at my house earlier changed his mind. But he only wanted my 2 Flat Screen TV's. Ofcourse he was in a hurry and was rushing me, all the while assuring me he would be right back with a company check. I knew of this gentlemans company, because I had emailed him pictures of items in my house.
Needless to say, he left with TV's and I didn't hear from them for almost 24 hours. I went to Jims residence and he informed me they had just sold them but couldn't get the price I wanted. Luckily, he had forgotten remotes and I followed him to the residence where they were and still are. They have yet to give me any $$, I keep getting promises it will be a few more days. It has been 7 days.
I am nervous about calling police. I have learned recently how scarey they can be. Can I just bypass these 2 criminals, go to the residence with police and demand my TV's?? I have pictures of them from family gatherings, the brochures, but I do not have receipt.
    HELP!!!

There was recently a story in the news about a guy who found out somebody had his property, and tried to get it back without calling the police. You may have heard about it.

You can sue, you can call the police, or both, but self-help is a bad idea.
