The father of my 3.5 year old child has only been around for about a year of his life. He was not around the first year. Then he saw his son for a little over a year & now he hasn't been around for about the last 9 months. Even when he was around he pawned his child off on his mother & sister. He is an addict & he failed a drug test that I maid him take. I refused to let him see our son until he sobered up. We signed a petition agreeing to visitation when I say it is ok, random drug testing, & child support of $200 month. I went to the court & did everything I was supposed to. Then 1.5 months later Hurricane Katrina came & the wonderful legal system of New Orleans never filled the paper work so I never got a Judgment. So does he not owe child support? This is what his lawyer claimed 7 months ago. Funny, that was the last time his lawyer heard from him. Also, my husband who has been in the child's life almost since birth wants to adopt him. If he is willing to give up his rights we are wiling to forgo the child support. Can we do that? Also, if he does sign over his right's can he come back after a few years & fight it, claiming he made a mistake? If he can do that and wins does he not owe any child support for those years?
