Default Old Landlord Repeatedly Contacting New Landlord, in Missouri

I recently moved out of my apartment. I dropped off my notice to vacate on the 31st of October. No one was in the office all day(as usual), so i left it in an envelope. I then began moving out. I was not in a lease and had to give notice the day before the first day of my last month. Around the 14th of the month the apartment manager contacted me asking me if when i was going to pay the rent. So i told her that I would be in over the next couple of days, thinking I was just paying her for the last month. Then on the 26th she contacted my new apartment manager saying that I had abandoned the property and that she needed to get a hold of me. So he calls me upset thinking i just rolled out on this old apartment manager, and told me that "he wasn't going to kick me out or anything but i needed to get a hold of" my old apartment manager "and get this thing cleared up and let him know when I did". I then found out that this apartment manager has contacted all kinds of people, that were not a reference on my application and who know my parents and don't know me hardly at all. How she got there information is beyond me. The question I have is this, Is she crossing the line legally in communicating with other including my new landlord that I have abandoned a property after he had already called her for a reference as a landlord? She also claims that I never put a notice in and is wanting Dec. rent as well. So I now have this lady contacting everyone she can for what i reason I couldn't tell you.
