A legal resident of US since 11 years, 6 years since permanent residency (employer sponsored).
Spouse(naturalized) and daughter(born) are US citizens.
My records are clean in every way, credit, taxes, driving, school, job everything except this minor shoplifting incident 2 yrs ago (a genuine mistake but that is not how it was viewed) which was taken to local municipal court, upon attorney's advice pled guilty and they downgraded to municipal ordinance(disorderly conduct) paid a small fine. Otherwise I have blemishfree record.
There is a sea of information on the web about CIMT but vague. Do I need a lawyer or can I apply on my own (before or after 5 yrs). To make sure I am getting the right advice, I am requesting some input from experts here.
- Should I wait for 5 years to apply for naturalization?what are my chances of being rejected or worse.
I have municipal court record which indicates it is not a crime, just a petty offense.
Please advice
